Congratulations to Jeff Johnson, Argo Systems, and Chair of our Baltimore Post Student Chapters, upon receipt of the Navy Civilian Award!  Note the attached article published in National SAME Newswire:

Recognizing Graduating Midshipmen
In February, the Baltimore Post hosted the annual U.S. Naval Academy Appreciation Dinner. Each year, midshipmen graduating with engineering degrees are honored by the Post (which sponsors the Academy’s Student Chapter). This year’s guest speakers were former Army Chief of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Robert VanAntwerp, F.SAME, USA (Ret.), and the Acting Secretary of the Navy, The Honorable Sean Stackley.

A special moment of the evening was SAME member Jeff Johnson of ARGO Systems and the Baltimore Post being honored by the secretary with a Navy Civilian Award for his service over the last eight years coordinating the event!

Congratulations, Jeff, on a well-deserved honor!

Please note that we are changing our spring meeting schedule to host our annual Small Business Forum in the Fall of 2017. This change will allow us to plan an event with multiple tracks, speakers, exhibits and networking built around our theme of: Educate, Network and Inform. We anticipate this to be our biggest and best Small Business Forum yet, so stay tuned for details.

Scholarship and Education Outreach

The purpose of the SAME Baltimore Post Scholarship and Educational Outreach Fund is to encourage and support talented students to pursue careers in engineering, architecture, or the physical sciences. We accomplish this through scholarships awarded to qualified students who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree in these fields. Our scholarship recipients are selected on a merit-based approach.  With generous donations from our Sustaining Member Firms and Individual Members we were able to award ten scholarships to Baltimore area students in 2015.  We were also able to fund activities for middle school students at Easy as Pi and conduct student mentoring at local colleges.  We cannot do this without your help.  Please consider donating to our program, as described in the attached letter to members.  Our future engineers need your help!  Thank you for your support.

Letter to Members

We have set up an e-mail address strictly for our Post Treasurer/Assistant Treasurer:  BaltimoreSAMETreasurer@gmail.com.  Any questions for the treasurer will be promptly addressed.  Thank you.

Our Programs Committee is busy year-round, developing information-packed programs for our members. If you are interested in helping, please send a note to Heather Polinsky: heather.polinsky@arcadis-us.com or to Trey Jordan: jordanjr@gmail.com.

The SAME Baltimore Post is interested in hearing from you, our members. Please take a few moments to answer the following anonymous survey. Your input will influence Post communication activities, monthly meeting topics, and general Post operations.

We’re Looking for a Few Good Fellows

The SAME Academy of Fellows is a body of SAME members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to SAME, to military engineering, to engineering and related professions in general, and to their community.  Being accepted into the College of Fellows is a great distinction.  Somewhat less than 3% of the total SAME membership has been awarded this honor.  However, for members who have shown outstanding achievement and leadership (which includes leadership by example), being accepted into the Academy of Fellows is not an unachievable goal, and the Society is sincere in its desire to ensure that deserving members are granted this recognition.  The selection process is not a competition.
